ART EXHIBITION: 16 participants have their work on display.
Submitted by Irene Malvezi
An art exhibition has returned to Brentwood following its success last year.
Frontline’s CAFÉ ART Exhibition is back at Brentwood Library until Tuesday, August 30.
Frontline’s concept is to give participants the opportunity to enjoy the art-making process. Art is a sensory exercise aimed at promoting motor and visual stimulation.
It does not matter if the result is a simple line on paper or a complete painting. It is about being able to create individually or with the interaction and assistance from a support worker.
Frontline welcomes people with learning disabilities. Participants are able to create artworks through simple techniques such as collage, dabbing, mixing colours, drawing and painting.
The group is fortunate to have a team of volunteers who offer their skills.
The exhibition will show work from 16 participants, with about 60 artworks on display.
Irene Malvezi, CAFÉ ART’s tutor and exhibition organiser, said: “Throughout the years, I have witnessed innumerable situations where participants have changed from being anxious, insecure and avoidant to the art-making process to becoming more relaxed, creative and engaged with the group.
“It is a joy to see how the art-making process evolves individually and as a group, and how the group enjoy the sessions.
“Art is a tool for freedom of expression as well as healing.”
The ‘Sensory Art Spectacular – Art Exhibition from Frontline’s CAFÉ ART’ aims to promote participants’ confidence and appreciation for all they can do.
The exhibition runs until August 30 at the Brentwood Library during its open hours. It is a free event and most artworks are for sale. The proceeds from these sales will go to the artists, Brentwood Library and Frontline.
