Samantha Schneider uses watercolour, acrylics and ink to create stunning landscape art An Edmonton artist who draws inspiration from the marshes of the Lea Valley will be exhibiting her work at Bloqs next month. Samantha Schneider is a mixed media artist who creates “vibrant, fluid work” mainly using watercolour, acrylics and ink. She loves working outdoors where she finds inspiration to respond creatively and enjoys connecting further with her surroundings by using found material like sticks to draw with. After studying visual communication at Leeds College of Art and Design, for many years Samantha worked in arts project management and community engagement before recommencing development of her creative practice. Some Edmonton residents may have unknowingly seen some of Sam’s work before, as last year she designed shutter artwork for Alix Dry Cleaners and Boundary Hall Community Centre as part of Fore Street For All’s ‘Open All Hours’ project in Edmonton. “I am proud to have contributed to the improvement of my local high street and have seen the positive impact the artwork has made,” says Sam. During lockdown, she fell in love with Tottenham Marshes; like many people, it was an opportunity for her to discover the “natural beauty on her doorstep”. Drawn to views that included pylons and cranes, Sam began seeing them as beautiful structures, each having a unique charm. This led to a “deep exploration into the juxtaposition between the industrial and natural landscape and the harmony that can exist”, which is the theme of Sam’s selection of autumn and winter scenes for her Bloqs exhibition, Power of the Marshes . For practical reasons many of the artworks are created from the same spots, providing the opportunity to record the changing landscape across the seasons. As part of this exhibition, Sam will be inviting visitors to experience the power of the marshes for themselves at two special group art sessions on Saturday, 13th April and Sunday, 21st April. Participants must bring their own materials. eventbrite.co.uk/e/exhibition-launch-party-tickets-836085412977 Power of the Marshes launches at Bloqs in Anthony Way on Friday 15th March and will be open to the public until Friday, 26th April.
