Over 80 final year students of Contemporary Art, Design and Film at ATU Galway will join forces over the next week to hold their first graduate exhibition together in Galway city.
The exhibition will be available until 11 June at the TU’s School of Design and Creative Arts on Wellpark Road.
At ATU Mayo, nine students on the Contemporary Art Practices programme will host their graduate show in St Mary’s Hall on campus from 13 to 17 June.
Both shows mark the Golden Jubilee of the former GMIT which became Atlantic Technological University two months ago.
The ATU Galway City campus show was formally opened by the President of Atlantic TU, Dr Orla Flynn, yesterday and its opening hours are 10am to 5pm each day.
It will feature the work of final year students on the BA Contemporary Art programme, the BA Design (Industrial Design, Textiles & Fashion Design, Graphic Design & Illustration, Animation and Game Design) and the BA Film & Documentary.
Celine Curtin, Head of Dept, ATU Creative Arts & Media, said they are delighted to welcome the students’ families, friends and the community to come on campus and view the range of work on display.
“Their creativity and tenacity in generating exciting new work is all the more remarkable in light of the difficult circumstances they endured during their studies since the pandemic. We look forward to celebrating their work with the wider community,” she said.
Hazel Walker, lecturer, ATU Mayo, added that the degree show of the BA in Contemporary Art Practices has been an integral part of life on the Mayo campus.
“We are delighted to be back live in St Mary’s Hall and to welcome everyone to this year’s graduates’ exhibition.”
